I wrote a story about my excursion to the village from whence this blouse came (see link below).

The few examples of the most intricate embroidery I had ever seen were known to come from the particular village where this blouse was made. This form of embroidered figures on blouses is known as “hazme si puedes,” which translates to “make me if you can,” connoting the level of skill and difficulty required to realize each piece. Blouses and dresses can cost up to many hundreds of dollars.

This particular blouse comes from a family’s atelier that is known for its quality. I chose this blouse for its vibrant orange and for the fact that it had just the right amount of embroidery. I particularly like the square border under the collar, which shows hand stitching, embroidery and crochet, and lets in a little skin underneath, adding another layer to the elaborate design.
